My Darling BabyA

To know you are inside me, growing and developing (and the constant kicking, lately) is to know happiness and the meaning of life. From the moment your daddy and I found out we were expecting you (especially our 2-year wait), to this day, and looking forward to the day you finally enter this world, has brought joy to us and everyone around us!

Throughout these months mummy and daddy have felt you grow into this cute bundle of joy, and still waiting for the day when we can finally hold you in our arms, especially daddy. Everyday we pray for longevity so that we can watch you grow and make us proud. Each day, I, even daddy will touch my tummy to soothe you and calm you down. Every kick you give mommy is one of the best feelings in the world and mommy thanks Allah for giving me this chance to be a woman!

Mommy is saddened by he big loss we had, 2 weeks ago, the passing of your great grandmother, who was eager to see you, who constantly prays for your safety and health, one of the most strongest woman mommy knows, and aside from your grandmother, who has taken care of mommy all my life but I know she is in a better place now, and I hope to be like her, taking care of 10 of her children to what they are now, on her own, after your great grandpa passed away and to even have a quarter of  her patience and strength would be something to be proud of for me. Al-Fatihah.

I am sad that she won’t be able to hold her first great grandchild, and hold you, and see you, but we will always keep her  memories alive. Nonetheless,  know that mommy and daddy will always be there for you, and there will always be love surrounding you, from your grandfathers, grandmothers, your many grandaunts, granduncles, your aunts, your uncles, your cousins, and so much more.

Mommy and daddy is looking forward to the day that you will enter this world, to see your first smile, to hear your cry, to hold you in our arms, to see you open your eyes… Oh! There will be so much memories to make and those will never fade in time, so excited!

You are our pride and joy, my love!

DIY Ruched Maxi Skirt

I have been quite a big fan of maxi skirts.

I love the simplicity, how versatile they are, how stylish one looks in them, and most importantly, how it gives maximum COVERAGE. I truly believe maxi skirts are one of a muslimah must-haves!

So I thought, why not make one? I am very pleased to say that my attempt to make one wasn’t a disaster and you can make it even if you can’t sew (for example, ME!)

My husband gifted me this beautiful sewing machine, after my attempt of using my GIL’s Electrolux ca. 1995 failed.

I’ve used chiffon silk, and since it is sheer, I used a cotton fabric for the inner layer, so basically there will be two layers for this skirt. I wanted a beautiful fluid effect to the skirt.

Choose which end will be the waist of your skirt and fold over the fabric about 3cm and pin as seen. Fold towards the inside of the skirt. Press. Pin.

Now sew as seen here either by hand with a needle and thread, or with a sewing machine. Make sure that you don’t join together, leave a little gap or ‘hole’ of a couple of centimetres so you can pull through your elastic waist band.

Remember to adjust more length the top layer of the skirt longer.

Fold your fabric in half, right sides together and pin the selvages together. Sew. Now you should have one side seam.

Measure your waist measurement and cut elastic.

Attach a small(or large!) safety pin to one end of the elastic. This will make pulling it through the waistband much easier.

Once you have pulled your elastic all the way through you should see both ends meet.

Then you want to sew the elastic together securely - remember this is what will keep the skirt up!

Pull the elastic through the waistband and you should get a nice gathered or ‘ruched’ effect. Now you need to sew up that hole.

I have also hem the skirt so it does not fray…

…and that’s it!

Alhamdulillah! I still need to improve on my sewing “skills”, but I am quite pleased with myself!

On a side note, don’t you just love the ruched details! :D ♥

I cannot wait to make some more! :)

Now, pick up your needle and threads, or sewing machine, go forth and SEW, ladies! :)

Dengan mengeluarkan kata-kata agama,
tidak semestinya aku seorang ustazah

Labuhnya tudung ku,
tidak semestinya aku seorang yang alim

Dengan menasihati orang lain
tidak pula bermaksud aku ini adalah orang yang sebaik-baiknya

Aku cuma insan biasa
yang mempunyai keinginan seperti kamu

Cuma aku berkongsi
apa yang aku pelajari dan apa yg aku tahu

Dan mengingati diri sendiri
supaya menjadi lebih baik.
